Vacation Monday

Mrs. Chili wants pictures? I deliver! Oh- and in honor of Cheesy, I took a picture of a salad somewhere (see Flickr link at the bottom). Now, to make Andy cry some more- We got a bit of a late start today and grabbed some lunch, but missed this guy:

Damn, why did it have to be a Monday? Cruel fate, how you tease me.

Then we headed south into California with high expectations after having talked to Scott From Oregon, and the further from the Oregon border we got, the more things sucked. This was right near the line. Kamph Memorial Park is nice.

It was foggy when we got there and that burned off by about noon or so, and then the sunburns started. This path lead to a little waterfall and some other riparian type features that were nice.


Then we went to see the Redwoods and that was nice to spend more time and walk some trails. It's an awesome forest. Gordo- no foolin', pictures of this place can't seem to do it justice. Like one of those Grand Canyon kind of things- you have to go to experience it.


There was this tree hugging hippie chick there too.

Then we went further south to Crescent City, California. What a friggin dump. Seriously. Run down, overgrown, dead, dirty and in places abandoned. There is this lighthouse attraction there and I don't know what percentage of tourists brave the slum to see it. The beach, by the way, had swastika's spray painted on the larger driftwood logs. This picture is generous to the scenery. Stay classy, Crescent City.


After getting our daily dose of hate symbolism, we said Fuck California, and allowed as how Scott from Oregon is either remembering things better than they are, or is on the crack. We got back into Oregon, and like a strange curse on the landscape ended. Grass grew again, the trees were not anemic and frail looking, people cleaned up after themselves- it's a stark contrast. Plus, I saw the fattest cat I ever saw. I had to zoom way in, but you can still ge the idea-


Other than three text messages and one phone call from work, that's about it. We came back to the hotel and had DQ dipped cones. Calories don't count on vacation, right? A dip in the pool and we're done for the day. Tomorrow we'll probably stay local and hit low tide about 10AM. As before, the pics (and others) are available in other sizes here at Flickr

Like Greenland Is This Green

We're on vacation and here's some of what we've seen so far. The above is some roadside rest stop in Oregon. Yesterday we went from Seattle to Grants Pass, Oregon and met up with Cheesy and Scott from Oregon for margaritas and such. A fine time was had by all. Then today we went a bit further south. We drove down just into California through the Redwood forest:



Then we headed back NW to the Oregon coast and are now in a town I lived in when I was A's age- Brookings. It's a quiet retirement town mostly, but I still love it. 28 years ago, this is where you could find me damn near any summer day:



I think the family is enjoying the R&R. If only the puppies were with us...

Please, PLEASE, call (202) 224-3121 (the switchboard of the House of Representatives) and ask for your Representative's office. If you don't know your Representative, now is the time to do your duty as a voter and citizen. Use Project Vote-Smart to find your Representatives. Feed your ZIP code into the search tool on the left. Then call the House Member (you'll only have one- unlike Senators) and vent a little. Tell them that you want them to do their job and to get their asses into chamber and support Representative Dennis Kucinich's 35 Articles of impeachment against President Bush.

Rep. Kucinich is showing some serious balls here, and he needs our support. Even if you are a conservative/Republican, you should call. This is about the rule of law- not partisan differences.

Proper Homophobia Continues

There is a trend anymore of accusing someone who disagrees with something as being phobic about that thing. Such is the case with those who would say something contrary to homosexuality, being accused of homophobia where fear may not be the root cause. I think it's more often than not simple bigotry. I don't understand so many things people do, and this is but one mystery. At a Mariners game recently, two women were kissing, and an usher was dispatched by some nearby offended person to put a stop to it. Is this really where we are as a culture? How can this be anyone's priority?

I'm not especially tuned into the gay community (and why is it a community? Is there a "community" of perverts that I'm missing?), but so what? People are pretty much the same, and if some other guy wants to put his filthy cock in other places than where I want to put MY filthy cock- fine. None of my business. If it makes him happy- more power to him. I'm more concerned about rape, or violent crime (problems where the gay folks don't proportionately participate). I'm less interested in Lesbians than most men, as I can't escape the awareness that they are a group of women who want nothing to do with my filthy cock, and can't get all worked up sexually while this disappointment looms. Regardless of their preemptive disinterest in my genitals, I include them in these views and mean to use the word "gay" to include either gender. Any two (or more, I guess) people of any combination of race/height/weight/hair color/gender/appendages/blood type/whatever want to consensually do things to one another- more power to them. Even in public. Who are these other people who are so afraid of the human anatomy that they make issues of these things? Is that all the further we have come as a culture? You could site bare assed in the bleachers for all I care, provided you sanitize the seat when you are leaving.

I was not going to mention any of this in a post, as I try to kid myself that smart people aren't the ones who are so prejudiced about homosexuality, but then I read comments at tompaine.com following and article concluding that President Buchanan was gay. I happen to believe that he was, but that's not the point. The comments were presumably from educated and hopefully enlightened people, and they were surprisingly resistant or hostile to the evidence and idea, as if it was a posthumous slight of the man. As though it lessened him somehow. Forget that he was a pro-slavery shithead, it was the gay business that taints his legacy. (aside: "Heh heh- I said "taint")

The more I look around, the more I don't feel so much like a liberal as I do like a radical. Oh, and my ego-centric superiority complex? It's growing like a weed in Pripyat

I know that the dipshit-in-chief has made it trendy to completely fucking toss out civil rights relating to privacy, but now that the fucking Democrats have sponsored and passed *and had signed by the dipshit-in-chief* S. 1858 we're getting it from our would-be saviors. Honest to fuck- we're doomed. The law establishes a database of the DNA OF EVERY NEWBORN IN THIS FUCKING COUNTRY. No consent, no opting out, and surely some of that quality government security and integrity. They'd never misuse or apply this information against us- right? And we were greeted as liberators, right?
